EN: Resuming Download

I needed to download Ubuntu Gutsy Tribe 5 today. I do not download .iso files so often, so I just naively clicked on the .iso file to download it in Firefox. After 30 minutes I needed to take my notebook to the meeting, so I got idea to pause downloading for a while.

What a surprise, when I got back to the table and plugged in the ilife-giving cable. No resume at all. In 2007.

What the heck, I remember that I needed to solve this on day to day basis 8 years ago, so I remember there used to be some tools to resume partial download. I even put them on my free application list.

Everything changes as time passes by, some mentioned applications are not free anymore.

So until I change the page here is the replacement for all those download managers:
Free Download Manager

PS: I had to go through this only because Firefox cannot resume partial download.

I've used this since pre-1.0 days on Firefox, I'm pretty sure - You must have been downloading from a server that doesn't support resume.

Example of me downloading the ISO with resume:

If the server doesn't support it, obviously Firefox can't.

dp_wiz thanks for the tip. However wget has troubles with corporate isa proxy.

Nicolas, the same applies to bittorent - I would love to use it for legal sharing of Ubuntu isos, however corporate network blocks that.

Leon, I have tried that from the official Ubuntu servers. And based on the fact, that Free download manager can resume it from the same server I tend to believe that the issue is within Firefox.

I know, that there is the Resume option - it even worked for me until I disconnected the network cable / or switched to wifi during downloading.

Great, Firefox 3 is going to have this functionality:

Finally!

Kazde otvorene spojenie totiz zerie CPU.

Ale mohl. Az ve verzi 3 to poradne dodelali.
